Well…it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Almost six months to be exact. So long that I forgot the password to get into my blog. I have so many terrible excuses for why I haven’t been posting, but instead I’m just going to get writing on this new post.
The festive season has just come to an end and I’ve been abruptly thrust back into reality, but if there’s one thing I’m using to combat the January blues it’s a bit of red lippy. A must for the festive period, but who says it can’t be a makeup bag staple for January? Especially in this bitterly cold weather (in Scotland anyway).
I picked five of my favourite red lipsticks, read on to find out more.
MAC – Captive: Captive is a bit of a berry/red colour, but I would definitely still say that it looks red on the lips especially against my really pale skin. It’s less of a statement red than the other four selections I have made with no orange tones to be found, an easy lipstick to throw on without having to think about lipliner. Definitely one to lift your mood on a gloomy winters day.
Charlotte Tilbury – Red Carpet Red: A true red. The sort of red that I’d imagine Swifty definitely has in her makeup stash. The Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks are brilliant matte lipsticks and this isn’t the only one I own. The website claims that it will ‘create the illusion of fuller, wider lips’ and although I’m not too sure how accurate this is (it’s a lipstick not a miracle worker) I 100% love it and don’t begrudge paying £23.00.
MAC – Russian Red: I feel like I’ve been hearing about this lipstick since the dawn of time. It’s also a matte lipstick, but I’m not such a big fan of MAC Mattes. It’s identical in almost every way to Red Carpet Red and it also costs £8 less so it’s definitely kinder on the purse. I’d always wear a lipliner with this and own the accompanying lipliner from MAC.
Bobbi Brown – Orange: Despite the name, this is not orange. Weird, I know. It definitely has quite a lot of orange tones in the red, but overall I’d count it as a red in my collection. I own a couple of ‘straight up’ orange lipsticks and this doesn’t hold a candle to them in terms of an orange lipstick. So, in conclusion: if you’re looking for a true orange lipstick this isn’t the one for you, if you’re looking for a red lipstick with orange tones then go ahead.
MAC – Lady Danger: A very orange toned red. More so than the Bobbi Brown Orange shade. MAC state that it is a vivid bright coral red and I’d agree with that evaluation 100% (they really know what they’re doing over there). Out of all the shades I’d say this is probably my least likely pick for a winters day, but it would be at the front of the queue for a summers night and it looks even more exceptional with a tan. Again, it’s a matte shade which is not my favourite finish from MAC but sometimes you’ve got to have a sacrifice somewhere.
Hope you enjoyed my first post back after a while away from the keyboard. I’m a bit rusty but what you gonna do?
